Creative Arts Retreats: I organise arts retreats for adults offering workshops taught by top-class tutors from Australia and overseas.
Creative art activities: As an artist, I use a variety of media including fibre arts, encaustic collage, ceramics, and metal and stone sculpture. I have a studio in the beautiful Adelaide Hills where I work and teach small groups. To learn more, see my Gallery of Artwork for examples.
Workshops and illustrated talks: I teach art workshops in a range of visual arts media and present illustrated talks on a range of topics relating to the arts in different cultural contexts. See what is scheduled or contact me to arrange a session to meet your needs. See illustrated talks brochure.
Arts Education: I have over 17 years of experience as an art educator, teaching visual arts, art pedagogy and multicultural arts education to trainee and in-service teachers. I offer professional development training courses, workshops, lectures and casual teaching aimed at pre-service and in-service teachers.
Museums and Heritage: I have a Masters Degree in Museum Studies and completed a PhD on ethnomuseology in Indigenous Australian and Canadian First Nations contexts. I have worked in museums and art galleries in the UK and Australia and acted as an adviser to the Museums Association (UK) on repatriation issues. I am now a freelance consultant providing research, curatorial, interpretation, and education services to museums, art galleries and heritage organisations. I specialise in cultural diversity issues, interpretation, active learning in museum and art galleries, and the design of exhibitions for children. See consultancy brochure.
Museum and Gallery Education: I plan and deliver public programs, schools programs, and write and create educational resources to support lifelong learning in museums and art galleries. I teach museum education to pre-service and in-service teachers, providing guidance on the educational use of objects and images, training on visual thinking and active learning in museums, art galleries, and historic sites, and how to plan effective educational visits.
University teaching: I am an experienced university lecturer and can undertake casual teaching, marking and research supervision of undergraduate and post-graduate students in visual arts, museums studies, heritage studies and related fields.
Research and writing – I have a long track record of research and publishing including Museums and Repatriation (1997), Making Representations: Museums in the Post-colonial Era (2001) and completed my doctoral degree in 2010 - The Spirit of Change in Museums. A Study of the Influences of Indigenous Cultural and Spiritual Beliefs and Values on Contemporary Museum Practice.
